Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden took time out from the dramas of Westminster to enjoy a kickabout in the sun with Parliamentary candidate Nigel Gardner.
Harpenden and Berkhamsted may be a new constituency – but it’s not new to me. My family go back many generations here. My grandmother was born upstairs in Harpenden’s Oddfellows Arms – one of 6 sisters all born upstairs in the pub. I grew up in Flamstead right in the heart of our new Parliamentary seat – and went to school in Harpenden. I only applied to be the candidate here – this is the only place I want to represent. Local common-sense conservatism is where I’m coming from.
I’m not a career politician. Watching what goes on in Westminster often fills me with despair. Earlier in my life I have been both a BBC journalist and founded 3 businesses – creating hundreds of jobs. I’m standing on the basis of local common sense conservatism. Whether it’s fighting the expansion of Luton airport or defending what’s left of our greenbelt, I will work tirelessly with you.
