Nigel Gardner Calls on Council to Save Senior Citizens’ Parking Permits

Local Council leaders have decided to axe Senior Citizens’ parking permits for the vast majority of  pensioners. Only those receiving benefits will keep the much valued permits. Nigel Gardner – the former businessman whose family go back generations in Harpenden – is urging the local Council to change its mind.

“The means testing of pensioners’ parking permits is something with which I profoundly disagree”, Nigel Gardner told local media. “It is simply wrong that those who have worked all their lives and paid their taxes should have their parking permits taken away.”

In a further blow to residents and High Street traders, the Lib Dem run Council plans to cut free on-street parking, making short shopping stops more difficult.

“With the cost of living crisis, these are the wrong policies at the wrong time. Not only are they wrong for residents, they will also make life harder for our hard pressed, hard-working High Street traders.”

“I’m calling on our Lib Dem colleagues to put our pensioners and high streets first and rethink these draconian changes – and I’m happy to work with them to come up with better proposals.”
